External Asset Library

The external asset library allows authors to manage details of assets hosted on an external site (e.g. GCS/CDN or another 3rd party server) or the AEM DAM for use in a single place for reuse in various Resources and Downloads components.

Good to know:

  • Businesses can manage external assets for all products from a single library.
  • The External Asset Library is intended to be a management page that will not be seen by visitors.
  • The component is to be used in conjunction with the Resources and Downloads component.

Prerequisites:

  • Thumbnails for external assets (e.g. brochure covers) should be preloaded into the DAM before building out the library
  • Thumbnails should meet the minimum required image dimensions and resolution.

Governance:

  • Currently, controlled documents such as IFUs, brochures, and surgical techniques should not be loaded into the DAM; pages on Stryker.com should link to the system of record
  • Use an External Assets Library component to aggregate resources hosted on 3rd party sites and enable them to be reused in the Resources and Downloads component

1. If an External Asset Library page does not yet exist for your business unit, navigate to your business unit in the AEM site structure and create a new child-page under your main Business Unit node using the "Exeternal Asset Library" template.

If it does exist, click the gold icon for the "External Asset Library" so that a check mark appears and click "Edit" in the tool bar.

2. The page will open. Click on the box around "Drag components here" and click the "+" icon.

Add a new "External Asset" component to the page.

3. Click the gold box that appears and click on the wrench to configure the details for the external asset.

  • Thumbnail: Drag and drop an image in from the Content Finder found in the toggle menu on the top left. If an image is not provided a default thumbnail will appear as a place holder.
  • Title: Title of the external asset
  • URL: Link to internal asset (DAM), or external link , or GCS/CDN document ID
  • Link Text: (no longer displayed)
  • GCS Document: Checkbox to indicate that the URL is a GCS/CDN document ID

Repeat steps 2-3 for all external assets to complete the Library.
