Virtual nursing: a wellbeing and retention strategy

To be safe at work, healthcare team members need staffing models that create safe workloads and allow them to practice in environments that upport their physical and cognitive wellbeing. Yet, across the country, many acute care leaders still struggle with a shortage of experienced nurses. These shortages create a perpetual problem, where the challenges to fill roles put strain on the nurses, often prompting them to seek employment elsewhere.

To break this cycle and help improve workloads, retention and recruitment, some organizations are implementing virtual nursing programs. Among the health systems leading this trend is ChristianaCare, where virtual nurses connect with patients and coach clinical colleagues via technology. Learn how nurse leaders at ChristianaCare co-created an innovative program that integrates virtual nursing and bedside care spanning across 20 units and 648 beds.
