Health equity as quality

Health equity is an important pillar of quality that’s often overlooked. In this Insights Huddles, Lou Hart, MD, outlines how health equity can and must be part of mainstream quality systems and processes. Dr. Hart explains how integrating health equity into quality efforts requires a strategic change management approach to educate, alter opinions, align data, engage cross-sector partners and hardwire equity into quality, safety and care experience systems. When health equity is integrated into standard quality initiatives it helps create psychological and emotional safety for team members by showing that the organization is deeply committed to undoing structural inequity.
