Kimberly Glassman, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAONL, FAAN, is clinical professor and associate dean of partnership innovation at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Dr. Glassman also leads the college’s COVID-19 taskforce where she advises the Dean and the university on policy, academic, and clinical practice issues. For 10 years Dr. Glassman was the SVP of patient care services and CNO at NYU Langone Health. She is the past president of the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders and served as clinical head of emergency management for NYU Langone Health from 2008 to 2012, a period which included hurricanes Irene and Sandy. She currently advises the city of New York’s office of emergency management.
In this episode, Dr. Glassman discusses what disaster response looks like in a situation like the COVID-19 surge in New York City. She talks about the importance of rest and seeking mental health support, as well as ways that teamwork and support can lessen the challenges of care team member redeployment. Dr. Glassman also looks ahead to lessons learned from the current response that includes changes in clinician training, telemedicine, and innovation partnerships.
