Your introduction to the clinical space

Week 3 marks your first foray into the clinical space of Neurovascular! Your sales training team will arrange for you to spend time with one of our certified field sales trainers in their territory. They will provide you with specific logistics, but to help you prepare, we’ve included some guidance documents and resources below.

Please ensure you are credentialed at the hospitals your trainer lists in their welcome email.

You are expected to bring the knowledge from the online modules to your first week in the field. Please come prepared to discuss the following:

  • A solid understanding of neuroanatomy, including the ability to speak about the circle of Willis.
  • Basic knowledge of Stryker’s guidewire offerings.
  • Basic knowledge of Stryker’s long sheath offerings.
  • Basic knowledge of Stryker’s intermediate catheter offerings.
  • Understanding of access setup, including bi-axial and tri-axial approaches.
  • Familiarity with the procedural steps of vascular access.

When you observe a case with your field sales trainer, you will complete a case write-up to broaden your understanding and enhance retention of the clinical concepts you observe. Download the worksheet here. Please print these prior to your field ride and bring them with you.

At the end of the week, we will host our virtual BRAIN training kick-off call. During this camera-on session, one of our trainers will review neuroanatomy and disease state topics with the class. On Friday, you’ll take an entrance exam covering the content from the virtual Pre-BRAIN sessions. Download the study guide here. All sales professionals are required to score 80% or higher on the entrance exam.

On-site training in Salt Lake City

Get ready to immerse yourself in two full weeks of on-site training at our state of the art facility in Salt Lake City. Completion of all prior online training modules is required to attend this phase. We’ve arranged accommodations for you in downtown Salt Lake City.

This training is structured to combine in-person classroom learning with hands-on product training. Mornings will focus on didactic instruction led by our experienced field sales trainers, while afternoons will be dedicated to practical, hands-on sessions.

Please remember to bring your BRAIN training materials that were mailed to you, excluding any demo products. We look forward to seeing you in Salt Lake City!

Download this template agenda to preview what the weeks will entail.

Focused field training on hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke

After completing the BRAIN classroom training, you will return to the field for two additional weeks of specialized Field Training. One week will be dedicated to hemorrhagic stroke and its associated products, while the other will focus on ischemic stroke and the related products. Both of these weeks you will be out of your territory for 3-4 days.

As with your initial field experience, it's essential that you ensure you are credentialed at the hospitals specified by your trainer. Your trainer will work with you to build confidence in role-playing scenarios and to tailor your talk tracks to the specific products. Be prepared to actively practice and verbalize your understanding of these products.

When you observe a case with your Field Sales Trainer, you will complete a case write-up to broaden your understanding and enhance retention of the clinical concepts you observe. Download the study guide here and print out prior to your field rides.

Hospital based training

In this capstone week, you’ll travel to one of our flagship partner hospitals to observe a Neurovascular program in real-world clinical settings. Over 3-4 days, you'll participate in discussions about procedures, collaborating with and learning from the local Stryker team and physicians. This "clinical immersion" week serves as the final stage of your onboarding, offering a critical opportunity to apply your knowledge in a real-world environment as a practical test-out.

Be sure to bring your Stryker lead apron, dosimeter, and a ready-to-learn attitude. Reviewing your previous training content is essential to make the most of this flagship experience. Prepare for an insightful week that will solidify your skills and complete your training journey.

In addition to the seven weeks of formal training, you will be required to attend Sales Method Training and Simulator Training, both of which are scheduled twice a year. Each training session lasts one day and typically requires 1-2 days of travel outside your territory. As the training dates approach, the Sales Training team and the Medical Education team will provide all necessary details to ensure you're prepared.

Simulator Training

Conducted by our Medical Education team in Chicago, IL, Simulator Training is mandatory for all Clinical, Associate, and Stroke Territory Managers, and is strongly recommended for all others. New hires in these roles are required to complete this training within their first year with Stryker Neurovascular.

Sales Method Training

Held in Fremont, CA and led by the Sales Training team, Sales Method Training is mandatory for all new hires within their first year of employment.
