So your application is in, and now the waiting and learning game begins. CMS will not release data and target prices until sometime in May so there is a bit of time before conveners have all the information necessary to assess your opportunity. So what are they doing right now, and what can you be doing in the meantime? Conveners, such as Performance Solutions are busy developing the structure of the contracts that will need to be signed before the August 1st deadline. They are also analyzing previous years of claims data to better understand the opportunities and risks. There are some nuances in BPCI Advanced that are different than BPCI so conveners are working through the differences with guidance from CMS and building them into protocols and materials to present to applicants. There is a lot to get ready for and a lot of behind the scenes work is being done. Here’s what you can be doing now: Begin pulling together a BPCI leadership team in your organization and establishing rolls and responsibilities, if you haven’t done so already. Work with your convener contact to understand their communication process, style and timeline over the course of the next several months. It will be important to find time on your calendar to learn about all the tools and resources that will be available to you so that you can make the best decision for your organization before August 1st. And, if you don’t know something, just ask.
