Thinking inside the box: Stryker sponsors entrepreneurial hackathon to solve a medical challenge

Good ideas can come from anywhere. In this case, those ideas came from inside a glass-walled container on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s campus.

Starting on Sept. 20, 2018, five MIT students lived and worked for four days inside the container to reimagine the ambulance of the future. The students were given access to a Professional EMS ambulance and emergency service personnel to see how it works and explore opportunities for improvements. They brainstormed solutions for their challenge and pitched their final ideas on Monday, Sept. 28. The MIT team placed second against other teams faced with different challenges in Switzerland. The event was part of MIT’s InCube challenge, an entrepreneurial hackathon co-organized by the MIT Innovation Initiative and ETH Entrepreneur Club, a student association based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Stryker sponsored the Cambridge cube, one of five set up globally that day.
