We champion authenticity for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and ally (LGBTA) community at Stryker. We celebrate diversity, foster an inclusive environment for all employees and provide networking, education, training and resources supporting sexual orientation, gender identity and expression awareness to employees. Established in 2015, SAFE has three regional chapters in the United States, one in Canada, and consistently growing interest.
Since its inception, SAFE’s leaders have built a strong foundation through employee-driven yearly action plans and partnership with other corporate and non-profit organizations that lead in LGBTA inclusion. This has come in the form of attending symposiums, educational conferences, summits, targeted workshops and more. This has assured the ERG’s perspective is always current and informative, and that the internal training offered is effective. Most recently, SAFE leaders from three chapters attended the 2017 Out and Equal Workplace Summit, which brings together more than 4,000 attendees from companies around the globe on a yearly basis to deliver/clarify best practices.
SAFE’s efforts – including the sponsorship of community Pride events and LGBTA resource centers – helped Stryker achieve a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index in 2016 and 2017. The HRC CEI is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices, pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees. Over the past two years, Stryker has earned a top score and the distinction of “Best Places to Work for LGBTA Equality.”
