Stryker boosts innovation:
R&D expands with medical device testing facility

  

Research and development (R&D) play a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of patients all over the world. Stryker’s R&D facility in India, Stryker’s Global Technology Centre (SGTC), recently expanded to accommodate rigorous life cycle testing of medical devices, including additional highly skilled engineers and microbiologists to conduct prototyping and product development testing in addition to expanded microbiology development testing.

Stryker established its first R&D facility in India more than 15 years ago to provide engineering support to R&D functions in domestic and other emerging markets. Today the center has over 1,100 employees and is one of the company’s leading strategic innovation hubs. In 2022, Stryker expanded its footprint in India by launching a new facility under the flagship of Stryker Global Technology Centre (SGTC) to further the company’s commitment to create a robust ecosystem of research, medical technology innovation and talent expertise.

The SGTC facility has expanded to allow for rigorous product development life cycle testing of Stryker’s technology. This advanced facility, spanning 55,600 square feet across three floors, serves as a key enabler for accelerating innovation from India for local and global markets. "This new lab represents our commitment to developing medical technologies that improve patient outcomes and comply with the highest regulatory standards," says Ram Rangarajan, Vice President of Stryker Global Technology Center, India.

The new lab possesses several key features that demonstrate our commitment to quality:

  • Prototyping and product assurance hub: Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure for plastic 3D printing, metal machining, and a diverse range of testing capabilities, the lab supports prototyping and product development across Stryker’s entire product portfolio.
  • Expanded microbiology competency: The lab strengthens Stryker’s ability to conduct comprehensive microbiological testing as part of the product development process.
  • Talented team of engineers and microbiologists: Highly skilled engineers and microbiologists will use the advanced equipment and expertise to develop innovative solutions that positively impact patients around the world.
