Sidra Medicine Incorporates Advanced Sepsis Program, Achieving Significant Treatment Milestones

Sepsis is a potentially fatal, preventable condition characterised by severe organ dysfunction. It is caused by an infection, such as pneumonia, and occurs when the infection alters the body’s normal immune response, causing tissue and organ damage. Sepsis can quickly progress to septic shock, the most severe form of sepsis, which causes organ failure in the lungs, kidneys and liver and can be fatal. In March 2022, Sidra Medicine, a 400-bed hospital, medical education and biomedical research center in Qatar, launched the Vocera Team Sepsis initiative in its pediatric medical and surgical inpatient units. The goal was to reduce preventable sepsis-related deaths to zero by ensuring rapid treatment. Initial results indicate a significant improvement in antibiotic administration compliance for time to treat within the critical first 60 minutes of treatment, increasing from 12% to 42% in the first six months*. Sidra Medicine is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), receiving the Gold Seal of Approval®.
